Once Upon A Time / A Fairytale Inspired Bridal Shoot / Derby Silk Mill

becky ryan photography - fairytale wedding shootPINIMAGEI have a super special fairytale wedding shoot to share with you today that was a while in the making! Inspired by classic fairytales with a vintage twist to encompass the classic nature of the characters, a group of fellow wedding suppliers and I worked hard over the past few weeks putting together the bits and pieces for this magical fairytale styled bridal shoot.

Fairytale Shoot – Behind the Scenes from Becky Ryan on Vimeo.

It started with a discussion between Sarah Bloor of Pin Up Curl and myself about potentially working on a styled shoot together before wedding season kicks in to take advantage of the time to do something a bit fun and creative. I had the idea of the route I fancied going down for it theme wise and fortunately it was Sarah’s cup of tea too.  So then it was time to contact other local suppliers that I thought would fit the styling and find our Ariel, Snow White, and Cinderella! Many Pinterest pins and Facebook conversations later, we had to go about making our ideas a reality, and here is the result. I hope you enjoy looking through the images as much as we enjoyed putting our little fairytale wedding together!

We went down the literal route with the moss as you can see for the table styling! It just seems so fitting for an enchanted fairytale feel to the table in combination with the roses and log slices. I just loved the centrepiece created by Nicky of With Love Weddings, it reminded me of Beauty and the Beast so fit in perfectly with our theme.becky ryan photography - alternative wedding photography_3567PINIMAGEbecky ryan photography - alternative wedding photography_3523PINIMAGEfairytale weddingPINIMAGE

Frock

The stunning gowns were created for the shoot by Esther Michailovs of Frock, a vintage inspired dress maker based in Nottingham. This stunning blue dress worn by our beautiful model Agata featured a removable tulle shawl that draped over the shoulders and individually stitched rhinestones. I’d wanted to work with Esther for a while so it was great to have her on board!

Pin Up Curl

I’ve worked with Sarah many times now and she always does such a wonderful job recreating vintage styles, I knew she’d bring her awesomeness to the table for our fairytale wedding. She’s recently branched out into selling a range of handmade hair accessories alongside her styling so took the shoot as a great opportunity to find some inspiration to do some custom fairytale themed pieces especially for it. Cinderella’s headband fascinator tied in with Frock’s blue dress perfectly. Made with genuine vintage decorative leaves again individually rhinestoned for that added sparkle and a blue veil. Sarah also did all of the hair styling for the shoot.

The Vintage Beauty Parlour

The beautiful make up for our shoot was done by Bethany Jane Davies of The Vintage Beauty Parlour salon based in Manchester. Bethany specialises in the glamorous looks of yesteryear and recently published her own book full of tips and advice in recreating vintage hairstyles (it features a bit of my illustration work too!). Having previously only worked alongside Bethany once before I was so happy when she said yes to being a part of our shoot, her work is just stunning and I’m sure her make up work makes any girl feel like a princess!

The Pretty Little Parlour Company

Helping with the styling of our sweetheart table providing the tableware was sweetheart herself Jan Leytham Gain of The Pretty Little Parlour Company! Jan is such a lovely lady it was wonderful to meet her and have her involved in our day. She helps to style weddings for brides looking for help in bringing some beauty to the styling of their day and she does seem to literally have everything in her prop box! Jan provided the tableware (plates, cutlery, glasses) along with some miscellaneous decorative items such as the shiny prop apples and candlestick holders along with the ornate tea set seen later in the post.  She actually managed to find a glass slipper for us that she just happened to have amongst her many bits and bobs! No fairytale wedding would be complete without fairy lights! I loved the fairy light curtain, I think I need a couple myself. Jan also created the beautiful bouquets for our Cinderella and Ariel.

With Love Weddings

Lisa’s beautiful bouquet along with the roses adorning the table and window and the domed floral centrepiece were created by Nicky Espinasse of With Love Wedding Stationery. Without Nicky’s help we really wouldn’t have had that gorgeous rustic, magical feel to our styling, I think she may have to add floristry/styling to the services With Love offer! Along with Jan, Nicky really helped me with the turning ideas into visual practice side of the shoot along with the general bouncing of ideas back and forth regarding styling decisions.  Nicky provided all of the stationery featured in this shoot and used it as an opportunity to design a gorgeous new fairytale inspired range for her clients! If you’re planning a wedding with a fairytale element to it you just have to check them out!

The venue of the Silk Mill, Derby, provided a wonderful backdrop for our shoot with so many elements to work with in the different rooms and beautiful natural light.

Victoria’s Sponge

We were lucky to have a very talented cake maker involved in this shoot that I met through a wedding I had previously photographed (though I was yet to meet in person), Victoria of Victoria’s Sponge based in Birmingham. Victoria blew me away with her creations. She made us  a selection of oh so stunning fairytale themed cupcakes for us along with our main enchanted themed wedding cake, she even had some time to produce some toffee apples for our Sweetheart Table. Victoria’s amazing textured gold wedding cake featured a beautifully handmade and painted ornate frame with the words ‘Happily Ever After’ along with some beautiful pale blue flying birds made from icing. Jan of The Pretty Little Parlour Company helped with this stunning piece of work through her flower arranging to create a truly magical wedding cake fit for any fairytale wedding.

Our final stunning model, Laura, wore a gorgeous sequined fishtail gown (what else?) from Frock. I love how it sits on the floor in a pool at Laura’s feet, it really is one gorgeous shaped dress. The pattern of the sequins even reminds me of coral, we couldn’t have found a more perfect dress for our mermaid inspired bride.

Pearls and Swine

To have the awesome Bink from Pearls and Swine onboard providing some pieces just for the shoot was amazing. The stunning large statement headpieces were inspired by each of the classic fairytale ladies that our brides were based on. A striking crown headpiece for Cinderella (plus a smaller crown only version), a large rhinestoned red apple for Snow White, and a sea inspired fascinator for our Ariel, Laura, complete with shells and a glittered starfish! If you’re a bride to be looking for something with quirk or wanting to make a statement on your special day Bink is your lady!

Along with the main wedding cake, Victoria’s Sponge also created these beautiful fairytale inspired cupcakes including one that looks as though it is made up of rose petals, a shiny glittering red apple cupcake, and a Cinderella cushion styled baby blue cupcake with tiny slipper on top! The detail on them was amazing!

Fairytale Collars

Another supplier that got involved with our shoot was Emma at Fairytale Collars, she created this beautiful felt Cinderella inspired collar and does a whole range inspired by other fairytale princesses! She also produces designs featuring woodland creatures and other super cute motifs. They’re ideal for adding a bit cute quirk to an outfit.

We were all so happy with how the shoot turned out, I hope it brings some inspiration to any brides to be out there wanting to add a bit of fairytale magic to the styling of their day!

It couldn’t have all come together without the hard work of the team involved so do show them some love and check out their work via the links in the post!

Thank you to my fellow wedding suppliers for being a part of this project and to our models Agata Nowak, Lisa Marie Rowe and Laura Howes.

I hope you enjoyed looking through the images, do leave a comment if you did, sorry it was a rather epic blog but this shoot had too much pretty going on not to share it all!
