Vintage Inspired Alternative Wedding Dresses / Wedding Inspiration

A bit of pretty Saturday morning browsing for brides to be out there now! Or even non-brides to be, if you like beautiful dresses, have a little look!

So having previously shared some recommendations for vintage inspired and quirky wedding shoes and seeing some particularly beautiful dresses out there at the minute I thought I’d do a little blog to share some designs with you all that you may not be aware of.

The Pretty Dress Company

The Pretty Dress Company are a UK based business that set out to create dresses that fit, flatter and flaunt!  Inspired by the glamorous females of the 1940’s and 1950’s, they aim for their dresses to take the wearer back to a feeling of true show stopping femininity and confidence. They describe how tailoring is key in their designs and how they create just the right cuts to hold you in, push you up and hug your curves in all the right places!

Whirling Turban

I came across Whirling Turban through American Pin Up personality and model, Cherry Dollface, as she wore one of their stunning dresses for her own wedding day. Having always been a vintage fashion fan, company owner Katherine Robinson prides her business on being able to offer her clients completely custom made to measure authentic reproduction dresses. Although the creations are reproductions, they really do look much more authentic than a lot of the other repro brands out there today. Katherine says on her website, “What I have discovered while working in this vernacular is that there is virtually no other company making authentic reproductions. It is expensive and difficult to do quality reproductions, so most folks in this field have to content themselves with making a polyester “reference” to a period garment and calling it a reproduction.”

True Vintage

Today websites like Etsy and Ebay open brides-to-be to a whole treasure trove of true vintage dresses! These are just a couple currently available on Etsy that caught my eye!

Maggie Sottero

For those brides looking for something a little more classic and closer to a traditional wedding dress, Maggie Sottero offers a lovely range of modern dresses with a definite air of vintage glamour. You can see the Maggie Sottero ‘Ettia’ dress on bride Katie at this Nottingham Wedding on my blog.

Fur Coat No Knickers

Based in Brighton, FCNK base their designs on vintage dresses that they have found and loved over the years. Crafted from carefully chosen lace, tulle and silk organza their dresses can be customised by taking away sleeves, adding different volumes of petticoat, coloured binding, sashes, headpieces and of course by tweaking the fit to the individual. You can find one of our previous brides, Nicola, in her FCNK dress over here on my blog in her rockabilly Eastbourne Pier wedding!

House of Mooshki

Another very popular English based brand providing brides with vintage inspired designs is House of Mooshki. “Each dress is as unique and individual as the bride themselves. We offer a range of colours to choose from so if you have your heart set on something different, like a black wedding dress, we are just the people to speak to. Each gown comes with an inbuilt corset to offer the best possible structure and support and every dress is created with pride, from the very first sketches right through to the finished dress.” Cute and elegant or glamorous and classic, HoM offers a wide variety of different vintage inspired styles.

The Couture Company

Last but not least, Birmingham bespoke dress brand The Couture Company. Colourful and quirky their dresses are full of character. My bride Nichola wanted a pale purple dress for her wedding day with a fairytale feel, complete with a custom sequined Raven on the hip for sentimental reasons. Her completely custom creation by The Couture Company can be seen on my blog here – A Fairytale inspired Nottinghamshire wedding.

So which are your favourites? Have you already chosen your dress? Let me know in the comments below! I think mine may be Whirling Turban’s designs, a bit of leopard print for the reception/evening would be fabulous!
