Manchester couple Zoe and Paul described their wedding day plan as being a “low key ceremony, big glam party!” It was all about being a relaxed, laid back, informal day with those they loved with a fun atmosphere and of course plenty of dancing to party the night away. They were married in a ceremony at the registry office in nearby Ripley.
I just loved Zoe’s choice of wedding dress, a stunning floor length rose gold sequined number which perfectly fit in with their glamorous planned vibe for their reception.
They found a perfect location to host their guests in Hollywood House, Belper which they had all to themselves for the weekend. Being based in Belper myself, I was surprised to discover this venue, hidden away just outside the town. With stunning views across the Derwent Valley, and bedrooms each inspired by a different Hollywood icon, it was a great find for Zoe and Paul and just what they needed for their day. Although I didn’t get to see every room in the House, I loved the famous quotes painted on to the stairs leading up to where Zoe and Paul were staying, and I loved the styling in the Walt Disney themed room!
In the morning myself and the bridal party’s hair and make up artists arrived, and the couple hired out a hog roast for the evening food, and a DJ for the party, but other than that it was just them and their guests. Being at a venue without it’s own staff on site like a general wedding venue really created a really laid back atmosphere. I imagine it’s not for all brides and grooms, as some couples may prefer to have the likes of a wedding planner/event co-ordinator ensuring your day runs to a schedule etc but if you are a couple like Zoe and Paul and really just want to have the day as relaxed as possible and do it all at your own pace then hiring out a venue like this seems the perfect option.
Zoe and Paul made such a lovely couple. They seem the perfect match. Both super laid back and really not serious types at all, full of silliness and fun (you’ll notice the images from their couple portrait session are mainly of them laughing, mucking around making fun of each other). But, towards the end of my time at their wedding, during their first dance, I saw a bit of the other side too. In the moments of their first dance together as a Mr & Mrs, the emotions of the day and realisation that they’ve just celebrated their wedding day hit. Zoe getting tearful as she danced with her man showed just how much he, and the coming together of their little families, meant to her. I’ve been to a fair few weddings now, but little moments like that when they’re maybe not totally expected still get me! It was lovely, as was getting to hang out with these guys for the day. Zoe and Paul I wish you and your little family every happiness and all the best for your many years ahead together, thank you for inviting me to play a part in your day, (‘wow’).
