I’ve got a super cute past wedding to show you all today courtesy of the lovely Polly and Gareth!

They were married at the stunning local Derbyshire venue of Ilam Hall in Ashbourne.

It would be lovely to shoot more Derbyshire weddings, it’s such a beautiful part of the country and I’m very proud to have it as my adopted home!

Their styling and crafting (check out those huge paper flowers!) for decor fit the space perfectly, as did the colours in Polly’s beautiful gold lace dress which she teamed with some offbeat bride favourites, Irregular Choice!  The natural earthy tones and flowers around the venue all fit the historic space in such an elegant-with-a-touch-of-quirk fashion.

Elegant with the best amount of quirkiness is probably how I’d describe Polly too! (Bloomin’ love her trying-to-get-the-ring-on faces).  All the best people aren’t afraid to show some of their quirkiness in their wedding! Also one of the smiliest brides ever.  I knew after their engagement shoot at tropical birdland  that the bride and groom to be were going to be such fun to be around and I absolutely loved being a part of their wedding.  I’m so happy for them to have recently welcomed their first child too!

Star Wars Wedding Doncaster Vintage BridePINIMAGE

What a wedding I’ve got for you guys today!  Sam and Charlotte’s wedding was vintage inspired with a touch of geekiness thrown in, a couple after my own heart!
One of my pre-lockdown couples, Charlotte and Sam initially got in touch with me back in 2018, planning to get married in 2021. They described their love of vintage, their plans to be married at a fabulous art deco venue with a live jazz band and plans to incorporate their loves of Star Wars and Batman and I knew this was going to be such a fantastic day to be lucky enough to be part of.  After deciding to postpone due to concerns with covid, their wedding was a long time coming but it was just as magic as I was picturing when I heard their plans four years ago!
They had their ceremony at Barnby Dun Church where the dresses in the wedding party were sparkling perfection in the natural light and the deep red tones of the flowers in the bouquets and buttonholes popped beautifully.  There were definitely some Disney/fairytale vibes going on with the classic feel to the styling.
Charlotte’s stunning dress and Sam’s beautiful light suit also fit perfectly with the art deco feel of their chosen venue, the unique Earl of Doncaster Hotel in Yorkshire that had some great little quirky colourful spots for photos!
In the evening they had their reception in the grand ballroom and took part in their first dance accompanied with a live jazz swing band playing Disney whilst colourful confetti cascaded down from the ceiling.
I love weddings where my couples really put something of themselves into the day, I came away from the wedding feeling like I’d known Sam and Charlotte for ages as not only did they put something of themselves into it, they absolutely poured their hearts into the day and really made the most of it.  Stamping their shared loves and love for one another into so many details.  Their joy, giggles and beaming smiles all day were incredibly infectious and it was so nice to revisit all that while editing their wedding.
Anyway, enough of my gushing about how ace it was, see for yourselves!…

Here is their wedding highlights video (this one had to have a Star Wars twist, obviously!) Instrumental music by the groom himself, Mr Samuel Allen.

The Unit Stills Photographer Dream…

the batman liverpool behind the scenes set photography by Becky RyanPINIMAGE

‘The Batman’ taken whilst they were filming on set in Liverpool

A little call out into the universe, it’d be rather cool to be a unit stills photographer…

I have had a strong interest in film and TV from a young age, taking Media Studies at A level and going on to pursuing a career in arts at college and university. Although starting as a freelance illustrator, my career path ended up veering more towards working in photography, in which I have now worked for 10+ years!

Having so many years experience in photographing weddings in a natural/documentary fashion I feel lends well to a career in production photography, capturing natural candids on set to document the process. It is an area I feel passionate about and I would love to gain some experience working in the TV and film industry and to be given the opportunity to pursue the combination of two of my loves, photography and film!

Although I’d love an opportunity to arise in television or film, I am aware that independent short films would be a great starting point to develop a unit stills portfolio and so if you are crewing up for a small production do bear me in mind!

Below you will find recent wedding work and portraits showcasing my style of of photography from the last few years that I’d like to hope shows my skills in composition, capturing moments quickly and making use of interesting light.

If you are a film maker on whatever scale and find my work appealing and are interested in working with me do please get in touch, I’d love to hear form you!
