great central railway nottinghamPINIMAGEKatie and Tim chose Ruddington’s Great Central Railway Nottingham, for their pre wedding shoot. Having been in a long distance relationship, Katie and Tim thought choosing a railway would be a great way to bring a personal touch to the shoot having had trains and travelling play such a big part in their relationship. The Great Central Railway Nottingham provided a great quirky backdrop for the shoot with its vintage buses and awesomely distressed old train carriages. Their lovely little daughter also joined us for a few images at the start of the session, I love the pure happiness on her face on the few of these further down the post!

The Great Central Railway are also providing the couple with their wedding day vintage bus! See you in the summer guys!

It may have started off with grey skies and hailstones but it’s pretty hard not to be happy around parrots!

Polly and Gareth chose the wonderfully unique location of Tropical Birdland in Leciestershire as the location for their pre-wedding shoot! I’d not been before, it’s so cool! It was also lovely to finally meet Polly and Gareth, who are also equally cool and I can’t wait for their wedding later this year!

becky ryan photography - fairytale wedding shootPINIMAGEI have a super special fairytale wedding shoot to share with you today that was a while in the making! Inspired by classic fairytales with a vintage twist to encompass the classic nature of the characters, a group of fellow wedding suppliers and I worked hard over the past few weeks putting together the bits and pieces for this magical fairytale styled bridal shoot.

Fairytale Shoot – Behind the Scenes from Becky Ryan on Vimeo.

It started with a discussion between Sarah Bloor of Pin Up Curl and myself about potentially working on a styled shoot together before wedding season kicks in to take advantage of the time to do something a bit fun and creative. I had the idea of the route I fancied going down for it theme wise and fortunately it was Sarah’s cup of tea too.  So then it was time to contact other local suppliers that I thought would fit the styling and find our Ariel, Snow White, and Cinderella! Many Pinterest pins and Facebook conversations later, we had to go about making our ideas a reality, and here is the result. I hope you enjoy looking through the images as much as we enjoyed putting our little fairytale wedding together!

We went down the literal route with the moss as you can see for the table styling! It just seems so fitting for an enchanted fairytale feel to the table in combination with the roses and log slices. I just loved the centrepiece created by Nicky of With Love Weddings, it reminded me of Beauty and the Beast so fit in perfectly with our theme.becky ryan photography - alternative wedding photography_3567PINIMAGEbecky ryan photography - alternative wedding photography_3523PINIMAGEfairytale weddingPINIMAGE

Frock

The stunning gowns were created for the shoot by Esther Michailovs of Frock, a vintage inspired dress maker based in Nottingham. This stunning blue dress worn by our beautiful model Agata featured a removable tulle shawl that draped over the shoulders and individually stitched rhinestones. I’d wanted to work with Esther for a while so it was great to have her on board!

Pin Up Curl

I’ve worked with Sarah many times now and she always does such a wonderful job recreating vintage styles, I knew she’d bring her awesomeness to the table for our fairytale wedding. She’s recently branched out into selling a range of handmade hair accessories alongside her styling so took the shoot as a great opportunity to find some inspiration to do some custom fairytale themed pieces especially for it. Cinderella’s headband fascinator tied in with Frock’s blue dress perfectly. Made with genuine vintage decorative leaves again individually rhinestoned for that added sparkle and a blue veil. Sarah also did all of the hair styling for the shoot.

  • Gabrielle - Amazing like always Becky. Loving the styling and frocks. Brilliant stuff xReplyCancel

Matlock Bath is such a fab little town, it’s basically like being at the seaside but without the sea with their Fish and Chips, candyfloss and arcades a plenty! But with the added bonus of some super cute vintage tea rooms too!
Earlier this month I was invited by The Fishpond Matlock Bath  to help with a quirky styled wedding shoot to promote the location as a wedding venue. Two real life couples modelled for us, Ben and Poppy who work at the Fishpond themselves, and Tiffany and Lee based in Nottingham who have previous modelling experience. There was also a team of wedding suppliers involved in the styling that specialise in helping brides add a bit of quirk to their day from mismatched vintage crockery to cinema inspired light up sign props, see the end of the post for the links! If you’re looking for a cool venue that you can put your own stamp on check out The Fishpond, also there are some great photo backdrops just on your doorstep! After doing some shots in the venue we wandered down the street to the lovely bridge crossing the river and also to a local sweet shop/arcade for some more image opportunities local to the venue, check out those colours!  What bride doesn’t want candyfloss, donuts, arcades, and fish and chips all within walking distance from their venue!?
