becky-ryan-photography-alternative-wedding-photography_7784PINIMAGESo last weekend I had a bit of a special little shoot. Nottingham Family Photography

Almost two years to the day I photographed Clare and Krisja’s wedding day, I was round at their new home to photograph them for a third time (prior to their wedding they had an engagement shoot down in Brighton!), but this time there was another little face to be captured too.

Clare had contacted me earlier in the year asking if they could have a shoot together as a family with their new little one once they were a bit more settled in their new place. I hadn’t done a family shoot with such a little one before but it was lovely! And so cool to get to hang out with Clare and Krisja again and see where married life has lead them, to a beautiful new home of their own (that I had some serious interior design envy over) and an even more beautiful little boy with the best little smile ever! Just see for yourselves ^_^

derbyshire christening photographyPINIMAGEI was recently booked for my first Christening, here in Derbyshire and not far from Belper, just down in Turnditch. Although it was my first Christening booking, it wasn’t actually the first christening I had photographed. Tim and Katie combined their ceremony with their daughter’s christening at their wedding earlier this year. As with my wedding photography I cover occasions like this in a natural way, focussing on capturing the emotions and people that make up the day. The service itself could not be photographed on this occasion but it was still lovely to capture so many smiling faces arriving at the church, greeting little Sienna, and to document the start of the family’s party back home after the service.

Vintage Makeover Photoshoot Becky Ryan PhotographyPINIMAGE

“Thank you all so much, I had such a great day. I love the photos!”

“Wow the images are gorgeous! Thank you so much!”

“I love them so much! I don’t know how I’m going to decide which ones to choose!”

August marked the first vintage makeover shoot in collaboration with Pin Up Curl and Bethany of The Vintage Beauty Parlour! And what a shoot it was!

It took place at a (top secret!) private location that we had access to here in the East Midlands, an authentic 1960s home!

How amazing do the ladies look?! All of them are more than giving professional pin up girls a run for their money, and most of the ladies had never had any sort of shoot before!

Here’s what some of them had to say about the experience –

“The makeover and photoshoot with Becky and the team was amazing. There was a lovely atmosphere at the venue – tea, biscuits and chit-chat were flowing. Everyone was really friendly and the makeover team were really helpful in deciding what worked (and what didn’t) for me. I felt very safe in their hands. Becky was great, she gave me excellent direction, telling how to pose, where my arms/hands/head/etc should be, all helping me get the best photos. When the previews came through I was thrilled. I am my own biggest critic, but I genuinely found it difficult to narrow it down. So many amazing photos! I’ve done a number of the makeover/photoshoot days and this was hands down my favourite experience. I would highly recommend Becky and her team to anyone wanting to do a more glamorous vintage shoot. You won’t be disappointed. Just make sure that you’ve got something fabulous lined up for the evening afterwards so that you can show off your amazing look!

“The experience was what I expected and more, I knew the day would be good. I trusted you to do your usual excellent work. I was just worried that I’d hate myself in the photos… but I needn’t have been concerned. The photos were fab! The venue was great and I found it with no problems. Hair and make up was great. In particular I liked that Sarah tried a style and was honest when she thought it didn’t work for me, so did something else”

“Such an amazing day! I would highly recommend Becky and the team to anyone wanting to do a makeover shoot. I absolutely LOVE my photos. Thank you for making me feel and look so glam!”

“The shoot location is reminiscent of an American film set and I felt like a vintage film star. Make-up and hair skilfully and beautifully done with a warm and friendly atmosphere. Becky is effortlessly professional and a naturally talented photographer, knowing how to capture your best features. I instantly felt at ease. The experience was even more than I expected it to be. I’ve never felt I’m very photogenic before so thank you for taking such wonderful photos of me. Everything about the whole day was brilliant, it is now firmly etched into my happy memory bank!”

“I think all of the ladies from the shoot look like film stars. I have never felt like I am very ‘photogenic’ before so thank you for taking such wonderful pictures of me”

As you can see from the photos, it’s not your ordinary ‘pin up makeover’ shoot. I looove natural light and avoid using anything but! This helps us create some really beautiful, flattering, and cinematic images full of glamour! Natural lighting teamed with the authentic setting makes for such a lovely combination of realness to the photos and our whole ethos behind the shoot is to be able to offer something completely unique to our clients unlike any other ‘make over’ shoots currently out there. There’s no scary intense and formal studio, or big lights shining in your eyes, it’s simply being in this wonderful environment and being made up to look like a real vintage starlet ready for your close up! It’s not about cheesy awkward poses, just looking and feeling like the fabulous women that you are and receiving some gorgeous photographs to hopefully remind you of this every time you see them.   It’s all very relaxed with us all being based in one room in the house for styling, sat around a little table with tea and cakes before I take you off to various areas of the location for your session.

On hair and make up I chose two ladies that are pretty much the best in their field and well educated on all things vintage!  I knew that they’d make our clients feel a million dollars. Our styling team consists of the super talented, Sarah Bloor of local vintage hairstyling business Pin Up Curl from Derby www.pinupcurl.co.uk and Bethany Jane Davies of Manchester’s The Vintage Beauty Parlour www.bethanyjanedavies.com

west mill derby weddingPINIMAGELaura and Ian were married at The West Mill, Derby earlier this month in their pretty, romantic, light and bright, with splashes of natural green, wedding.

When Laura first got in touch with me and she described herself as a self confessed overgrown child, with a love of kids films (especially anything Disney/Pixar) and ice cream, I knew she’d be a lovely bride to work with! They chose The West Mill as their venue as they loved the industrial feel, it was different to anywhere else they had seen and worked well for their plan to keep the atmosphere for the day pretty informal and relaxed.

It’s always nice to shoot at a venue a little nearer to home, especially one with some quirk to it like The West Mill, and I couldn’t have asked for a nicer couple for my first booking there. (I’ll be returning again before the year is out so watch this space!)

They chose to bring some live music to both their ceremony and their reception with a pianist to play Laura down the aisle, and a live band in the evening for their first dance onwards.  I loved the fact that Ian and Laura brought their not-so-grown-up side to the day with a game of pass the parcel before their speeches, jelly beans as favours for their guests, and an ice cream cart for the evening.

As the day started to wind down their guests were able to sit with their beers and ice cream on a grassy hill alongside the venue watching the sun set. It was lovely! I don’t think the atmosphere could have been more perfect for what the newlyweds had set out for and what Laura had described in her initial email to me.

Here is the story of their beautiful wedding one summer’s day in Derby!
