Something I love about my couples is how they’re aren’t afraid to shy away from what a ‘traditional’ wedding should be like. They embrace what makes them them and celebrate their day however way they want to, and they rock it! None more so than these guys.

Super stylish Dee and Stu were married in a low key wedding in Sheffield in April. Surrounded by their nearest and dearest it was a super happy day and it was an absolute joy to be a part of it. Here is just a small preview for now, watch this space for the full blog of this awesome wedding!PINIMAGEsheffield wedding photography becky ryan - alternative wedding photographyPINIMAGEPINIMAGEPINIMAGEPINIMAGEPINIMAGEPINIMAGEPINIMAGEsheffield wedding photography becky ryan - alternative wedding photographyPINIMAGEPINIMAGEPINIMAGE

Welcome to Netley Abbey! We’ve headed down to Hampshire for today’s blog, a pre-wedding shoot with Kari and Richard. Netley Abbey is just outside the city of Southampton, and is a ruined late medieval monastery, it also happens to be a pictureseque spot where the pair came on one of their first dates! As Kari and Richard had their ‘engagement shoot’ just before the wedding itself, it wont be long ’til you see them returning to the blog again with their wonderful wedding day!

So early in April I got together with a team of fabulous local wedding suppliers for this dreamy styled shoot!

Taking some inspiration from what was my upcoming holiday at the time, I wanted to do something around a Palm Springs-esque colour palette of retro pastel pinks and mint. I also felt inspired from having seen some wonderfully colourful real life brides lately. Ladies no longer feel as obligated to stick to traditional white and ivory if that’s not who they are, and it’s fabulous to see some quirkiness being embraced.

A large part of bringing the vision to a reality was done with the help of Julia from Curious Magpie (previously of Orange Tree Weddings) who really brought the retro kitsch to the shoot with their wonderful styling and great array of props.  Our brides quirky and colourful dresses were created from scratch (featuring some sequin applique loveliness) from local dress makers Bella Figura based in Matlock. The whole team were wonderful and really helped everything come together! Do check out everyone’s links at the end of this post for everyone that was involved. All the ladies are real wedding suppliers so if you fancy bringing some quirky retro kitsch to your own wedding day they could certainly help!

So here is the result of our efforts, I hope you’re ready for some colour! Enjoy! 😀
